Whispers from Him (A Poem for Hobbit)
By: Lori A. Brinkley
When he was young, he heard the voices
whispering in the wind.
Telling him of things he'd do and all
that he would win.
He had no choice, he had to listen
and he had to see
The things the future held for him
to fulfill his prophecy.
He did his best, he did his duty
in all that he was asked.
He had to try, no matter how
difficult the task.
And as he lived, he passed along
to all his progeny
That yearning that comes from within,
"fulfill the prophecy!"
And now he's gone, his voice has joined
the whispers in the wind.
He sings for all who have to listen,
and have to try to win.
So listen all ye mighty Malamutes
to the voices from within,
And know that what you're really hearing,
are whispers from him.
